Peter Root is an artist, but not brush and easel type of artists. Instead, Peter is using staples and potatoes. He’s the architect of abstract landscapes of enormous beauty and detail.

His miniature landscape “Honey and Almond” (2009) certainly smells good. No wonder, as it is made out of honey-almond sope. But its’ outer appearance resembles to what the great barrier reef is made of: organic structure, like cockles and mussles, alive, alive-o! In some other ways, it’s futuristic like the semi-biologic spaceships you can find in some science fiction.

Completly organic is Wasteland, a starchy cityscape made of potatoes – a perfect material for building, as the single bricks and pieces automically stick together due to the glue we happily wash off of our hands after cooking.

In a crass contrast to organic shapes and material goes Ephemicropolis, the latest work of Peter Bloom. It’s a metropolis as we know it: a vast area with skyscrapers, greyish, full-metal, hostile. The material used by Tool: 100.000 staples. The towers were up to 12 centimetres high (were, as they only existed for this project of 40 hours). Be sure to check out the making-of video and take a look at Peters website. See how Peter Tool’s art makes a difference with using small things and a sense for details.
